Eleven Jurisdictions will now review MACC’s recommendation.
On November 20, 2009 the Board of Commissioners for the Metropolitan Area Communications Commission recommended that the eleven affected Tualatin Valley jurisdictions formally approve the transfer of cable service from Verizon to Frontier Communications.
The recommendation follows nearly six months of reviews, questions and negotiations by MACC and the two companies. All information related to that review is available here.
The Board of Commissioners for Washington County and the cities councils of Beaverton, Cornelius, Durham, Forest Grove, Hillsboro, King City, Lake Oswego, Rivergrove, Tigard and Tualatin will now consider the MACC recommendation and consider a formal vote to approve the transfer.
If all jurisdictions agree with the MACC recommendation, the transfer would take effect sometime in the second quarter of 2010.
MACC and the companies agreed to a set of conditions to ensure the continued viability and performance of the existing Verizon cable system. While Frontier’s version of the cable system is not likely to be an exact mirror of the Verizon system, the conditions ensure that MACC-area consumers will continue to have a viable alternative to Comcast, Dish Network and DirecTV.
We welcome your comments.
